The Future of Assessing and Education

International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) is a nonprofit, educational, and research association. It is a professional membership organization of government assessment officials and others interested in the administration of the property tax. IAAO was founded in 1934, and now has a membership of more than 8,000 members worldwide from governmental, business, and academic communities.

Alabama’s history with the IAAO goes all the way back to 1974 when Robert McSwain (1925-1988) from Montgomery Alabama became the 39th President of the IAAO. However, after Alabama made it to the highest office of leadership with in IAAO we sadly dropped off the radar. Until 2019 when Teddy Faust, Cliff Mann, and with the support of the Alabama Association of Tax Administrators (AATA) petitioned the IAAO to start the Alabama Chapter of IAAO. At the 2019 IAAO Conference in Niagara Falls in Canada we were presented our Chapter Certificate and officially recognized as a new Chapter of IAAO. In February of 2020 the Chapter appointed its first officers. Since then, the Alabama Chapter has been on the move to regain our lost status as being a leader in the Mass Appraisal field

Why This Chapter
Was Created

The Alabama Chapter of IAAO’s goal is to develop our members to become the future leaders of Alabama. Leaders are made, not born, so what are you doing to become one? If you are serious about growing professionally, then we are serious about YOU. The Alabama Chapter of IAAO wants to be your partner for success.
